Limited to 25 pieces, this timekeeper is an example of simple elegance, technical sophistication and supreme craftsmanship. It is presented in a perfectly polished 40 mm diameter rose gold case, with an onion-shaped crown inspired by those on typical Glashutte pocket watches of the past. Gold in a silver cloak
The dial is made of solid gold and subsequently silver-plated by friction. A narrow railroad chapter ring and applied indexes lend the watch a classic, elegant face. The filigree rod indexes in rose gold enhance the understated overall appearance. The real eye-catcher is the small second display, which bears the inscription “Tourbillon” – a subtle indication that on this model the famous Flying Tourbillon is hidden on the reverse of the movement, in keeping with those made in Helwig’s era.
Exclusive masterpiece
This exclusive masterpiece from Glashutte Original is powered by the finely finished manual winding movement Calibre 54-01, which has a running time of 100 hours. The eye-catching element on the reverse of the movement is, of course, the Flying Tourbillon. Numerous elaborate decorations and finishes represent the finest in German watchmaking art: the sunburst decoration on the spring barrel cover, Glashutte stripes on the three-quarter plate, blued screws, screw-mounted gold chatons, and a great many parts in polished steel.
A legendary watchmaker
The Glashutte master watchmaker Alfred Helwig is still known today for his horological craftsmanship and creativity. The Flying Tourbillon, his ingenious invention from 1920, is a fitting symbol of his unrelenting efforts in pursuit of precision. Thanks to its cantilevered mounting, the tourbillon’s rotating carriage is relieved of pressure and can be executed in a very delicate form. A visual delight, it remains today one of the most challenging and sophisticated of grand complications.
