THE CALAVERA WATCH-A DEDICATION TO MEXICO
Calavera is the first watch by Konstantin Chaykin dedicated to Mexico and its amazing cultural heritage. The joker-indication module he invented was a perfect fit for the new “sugar skull” Wristmon. Konstantin Chaykin begins working on a new model when struck by an interesting idea, a philosophical, artistic or historical one. The entire history of the Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture testifies to that.
The idea that drove the creation of the Calavera watch was an existential one. We live in a fragile world but realizing that should not stop an artist from creating, and enjoying the process of creation, no matter how fleeting the result. And the point of origin of this idea for Konstantin were the calaveras, sugar skulls traditionally made in Mexico for the Day of the Dead, El Da de Muertos. They are an important part of the country’s cultural heritage, a collection of remarkably emotional artistic images based on a long tradition: it’s believed that making calaveras goes back to the XVII century, roughly three hundred years ago.

What can we call the Wristmons collection, regularly replenished by Konstantin Chaykin since the first in the series, the Joker watch, was presented in 2017 One possible answer to this question is that it is a comedy of haute horlogerie. Indeed, the mask-like dials of the watches, equipped with Konstantin Chaykin’s Joker-indication, with hour and minute indicator discs and the trademark moon smile, turn the collection, in spite of the will of the master who created it, into a japery, a theatrical performance, a collection of diverse characters. In Italy, this is known as the commedia dell’arte, where the audience is amused, provoked and entertained by Pantalone, Brighella, Pulcinella, Columbina, and of course, among many others, the Harlequin, perhaps the most popular mask of the Venetian comedy theatre.
Without him, without his black half-mask, without his bright suit sewn with multi-coloured diamonds, without his inherent fun and naivety, along with his ability to get himself into difficult situations-and find a way out of course-it would be difficult to imagine a performance in the commedia dell’arte style. One day Konstantin Chaykin decided that without a Wristmon dedicated to this character, his comedy production of haute horlogerie would be incomplete, and so he announces the release of the new, limited edition, Harlequin Ventuno.
Why Ventuno Because we are now in the twenty-first year of the twenty-first century. In Italian, ‘twenty-one’ is ‘ventuno’-a number closely associated with gambling. Konstantin Chaykin believes he has chosen the perfect moment to release this model, since the Harlequin is characterized by precisely such qualities found in gamblers-passion, zeal and enthusiasm. Indeed, it is easy to get enthusiastic about this watch. The big-eyed face of the Harlequin Ventuno observes the world with joyful enthusiasm and a readiness to completely let loose and go for it, even if it is not encouraged in the present circumstances.

In the spring of 2017, independent watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin first introduced to the public the Joker watch, with its stand-out and unquestionably memorable anthropomorphic dial. This model marked the beginning of the Wristmons (‘monsters on the wrist’) collection, which includes timepieces of different designs with unique complications.
In 2022, which is also the remarkable 5th anniversary of the collection, Chaykin decided to introduce the first female Wristmon, the amusing supervillain-Harley Quinn.

Let there be light!
Joker ‘Fiat Lux’, a new character in the Wristmons collection, sheds another ray of light on Konstantin Chaykin’s grandiose project. The act of creation brings unpredictability into our lives, which is characteristic of any creative activity. The Joker watch, designed by Konstantin Chaykin as a realization of his idea of the immediate emotional impact of a watch with a face-shaped dial, turned out to be a much more significant event both in the career of the master and in the development of modern watch design than just another experiment by an independent watchmaker. In the first few days after the original Joker was unveiled at the Basel fair in spring 2017, this limited edition sold out, and it turned out that many watch connoisseurs around the world wanted to acquire the same or a similar watch. The usual approach would have been to release a series of slightly different models, for example versions with a different colored dial, or in gold, platinum etc., but Konstantin Chaykin was not very interested in such work, he preferred to create new watches. He therefore began to think about inventing new characters and equipping the watches with other complications, preferably ones that he had invented himself. In 2017, new watches with anthropomorphic dials, Clown and Pumpkin Head, were launched alongside the Joker, creating the Wrismons collection.

Konstantin Chaykin’s Joker became a sensation amongst watchmaking connoisseurs in 2017. In 2022, the master horologist decided to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the popular model by creating an entirely new Joker Five watch with a new design and a new complication.
When considering the new model, Konstantin Chaykin decided to use an open-worked dial similar to the unique Martian Tourbillon created for the Only Watch 2021 auction.
This design makes the main functional components of the Joker-indication module visible from the dial side. Incidentally, the master has redesigned this module: the smiling moonphase indicator has been replaced by a new day-of-the-week retrograde indicator: again, a broad, mischievous grin from ear to ear. ABOUT THIS WATCH
The choice of titanium for the Joker Titanium Limited Edition was not accidental. The use of this metal in aviation, marine and aerospace technology has always brought clear advantages. In watchmaking, titanium is used as a lighter alternative to stainless steel. It is slightly darker than steel and is seen as technical, even brutal, rather than decorative. To produce the titanium parts of the Joker Titanium case, Konstantin Chaykin has developed a special technology that allows the high standards of workmanship of the steel versions of the original Joker watch to be maintained in the titanium version.

About this watch
In March 2023 Konstantin Chaykin introduced the new version of the most popular model in the Wristmons collection, the Minions Titanium. The dial is very similar to the original model which was so well received by the watchmaking connoisseurs. The case of the new version is made of titanium. The master has also altered some finish details.
The first Minions watch was introduced during the Dubai Watch Week 2021. It’s one of the most recognizable characters of the popular collection. A wristmon with banana-yellow face-like dial and a wide smile (moonphase indicator) instantly calls for a smile in response.
This embodies the core idea of the collection: watches with anthropomorphic dials which cause an immediate emotional reaction.

The Year of the Bull-a good reason to create a new Wristmon
Watches dedicated to the symbolic creatures of the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac are one of modern watchmaking’s more beautiful traditions, enabling the timepieces to be imbued with the meanings and stories of Chinese mythology.
Konstantin Chaykin noted that the bull, in one form or another, appears in almost all mythologies of the world. Bulls were honoured (while also widely used in ritual sacrifices) in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, ancient Greece, ancient Rome and, of course, in China, where the bull is ranked second in the 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle.

About this watch
In February 2023 Konstantin Chaykin introduced the Smilodon, a new watch in the famous Wristmons, or “wrist monsters” collection. The idea for the watch emerged in 2022 inspired by the year’s symbol in the Chinese lunar calendar, the tiger. Designing, refining and assembling the complex movement took the next year. On February 16 the master first showcased the new watch in action, during a presentation of his collection in Moscow.

Konstantin Chaykin’s Stargazer is the most complicated watch ever to be made in Russia. The
new Wristmon features 17 complications, with 664 parts, and the watch itself features a double-
sided case with two dials and pre-shaped reversible strap
Konstantin Chaykin is an independent, Russian watchmaker and a member of the Academy of Independent Creators in Watchmaking (AHCI). In 2003, the first creation was a tourbillon table clock, the only model to be made in modern-day Russia at the time. Chaykin is one of the most prolific inventors in the field of watchmaking, with more than 90 registered patents of inventions in his name. For his achievements, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
His outstanding creations include a series of four Computus Clocks that calculate the date of Orthodox Easter, including the Moscow Computus Clock, with 27 complications and 2,506 parts. It is one of the most complicated table clocks in the world. The Joker model with an anthropomorphic dial, released in 2017, instantly gained widespread popularity among collectors and started a whole family of Wristmons, recognisable characters with special personalities and their own history. In the past 6 years, the watchmaker has released more than 25 models in this collection, which has become his calling card.
Stargazer is the new protagonist in a collection of Wristmons endowed with own-produced movement and original complications. This watch opens another chapter in the chronicle of Konstantin Chaykin’s unique handiwork. While working on this watch, Chaykin concentrated on the idea of creating a ultra-complicated watch.
